STRIPED REVERSIBLE CHEVRON SCARF
VENDBART STRIBET CHEVRON TØRKLÆDE
Because scarves are so immensely popular these days I thought it would be fitting for this left-over-yarn-project. It's a small job (we don’t want to run out of yarn), it is quick (well, knitting on size US 2/ 2.75 mm may not be the super highway method of working but it will progress at a good speed. ) Finally, I wanted a scarf that I can get to wear during the subtropical winters here in South Florida.
Since I only have small amounts of each color, the scarf had to be multicolored somehow; stripes are always nice for scarves I think. The only problem is that there is usually a “wrong” side where the stripes don’t look so good. Hence the reversible striped scarf which "looks-great-on-both-sides" idea came to be.
Chevron stripes in garter stitch proved to be the perfect solution for a color pattern which looks right on both sides of the work. Knitted in lightweight silk/wool for the not so cold weather. Another benefit knitting this scarf in a fine gauge is that it is more elegant than if it was made in bulky yarns.
Do you have some yarn that you can use for this pattern? Or maybe you would like to purchase the yarn and pattern as a kit and make your own scarf. If so, go to our "etsy" or "amio" store icon on the right.
- You might even be up for creating something new out of your own stash this summer. When designing it is sometimes fun to set up guidelines beforehand like I did here, with three objectives to be achieved:
1. Material: Use some of your stash.
2. Product: A striped scarf which looks great on both the right and wrong side
of work.
3. Use: For sub-tropical winter weather or Scandinavian spring/autumn.
Whatever you do, enjoy knitting in a lighter yarn during the warm months - and if you begin now, there is plenty of time to finish before autumn or winter!
Really great article with very interesting information. You might want to follow up to this topic!?! 2011
ReplyDeleteI actually have a ball of yarn which is perfect for this pattern and it's just been hanging around forever because nothing looks right in it. But I think the simplicity of this will work. :) So thanks, even though I'm not using up odd balls from my stash from it - just ONE odd ball. :)
ReplyDeleteOne ball of yarn out of the way is better than none ...in Denmark we have an expression that my grandmother always used to say:"Mange bække små gør stor å" meaning; A lot of small brooks makes one great stream. Good luck with the project, and make sure you email me so I can send you the pattern.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely scarf.
